Why We Moved to Almancil — And Why It Was the Best Decision We Ever Made

For years, Reformer Pilates Algarve was in Loulé. It was where the studio was born, where the first clients found us, and where the community that still forms the backbone of what we do today first came together. Loulé will always hold a special place in the story of this studio.

But in June 2024, we moved. And honestly? It was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Why Almancil?

Loulé is a beautiful town, and for clients based there it was perfect. But the Algarve's most active wellness community — the people already seeking out boutique fitness, who had tried Reformer Pilates in London or Sydney or Dubai and were looking for the same quality here — was concentrated in a different corridor. Vilamoura. Quinta do Lago. Vale do Lobo. The Golden Triangle.

Almancil sits right at the heart of all of it. From Quinta do Lago, the studio is ten minutes. From Vale do Lobo, twelve. From Vilamoura, fifteen. From Loulé itself, still only ten minutes in the other direction. The move didn't leave anyone behind — it just made us easier to reach for a lot more people.

The Building — and Why It Matters

Here's something I didn't fully anticipate when we moved: the building itself became part of the experience.

We're in one of those old commercial buildings you find scattered across Portugal — the kind that have been quietly standing for decades, with thick walls and high ceilings and a solidity that modern buildings rarely manage. They're not glamorous in the conventional sense. No glass and steel. No polished concrete. But they have something better: character.

Our space is quirky in the best possible way. The ceilings are high. The light is good. There's a history to the walls. And there's something about training in a space that feels genuinely somewhere — rather than in a generic fitness box that could be anywhere — that changes the quality of the whole experience. Clients notice it. They comment on it. It adds to the feeling that this is a studio with a personality, not just a room with equipment in it.

What Changed After the Move

The impact was immediate. New clients who had never heard of us started finding us — people who lived five minutes away and simply hadn't known we existed in Loulé. Classes filled faster. Enquiries increased. Word of mouth, which has always been how this studio grows, accelerated because we were now closer to the communities where our clients live and socialise.

Moving a studio is not a small thing. There's disruption, uncertainty, and the very real worry of losing clients who were attached to the original location. We were lucky — the vast majority of our Loulé clients made the journey with us, and the new clients we found in Almancil more than made up for anyone who didn't.

Where We Are Now

The studio at Centro Comercial Doza in Almancil is genuinely the best version of what Reformer Pilates Algarve has ever been. The space works. The location works. The community here — drawn from Almancil, Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo, Vilamoura, Loulé, and further afield — is the most diverse and engaged it has ever been.
